Samsung and Affiliates Invest $1 Billion in AI Infrastructure Through Helix Digital

Samsung and several of its affiliates have announced a combined investment commitment of $1 billion to support KKR-backed AI infrastructure company Helix Digital, in a move that reflects accelerating global spending on the data centers and computing capacity needed to run AI models.
How will the investment be distributed?
According to Reuters, Samsung Electronics will invest about $500 million directly, while the other half will come from a group of affiliates including Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, and the group’s financial and insurance subsidiaries.
The funding is intended to support Helix Digital’s global expansion in digital and AI infrastructure, at a time when computing power and data centers have become some of the most attractive investment areas for capital.
A global race for infrastructure
The boom in AI applications does not depend on software alone; it requires advanced chips, servers, networks, power, and large-scale data centers. As a result, technology companies and institutional investors are moving to build an integrated ecosystem around this demand.
For Samsung, the investment aligns with the group’s presence in semiconductors, batteries, and digital services, giving it exposure to multiple links in the value chain associated with advanced computing.
What does this mean for investors?
The deal reflects the scale of the capital being committed to AI growth, but it does not guarantee a specific return. Infrastructure projects face risks including energy and financing costs, the pace of technological change, and future demand.
