Temasek Chooses Riyadh for New Office as It Expands in the Middle East

English versionالعربية

Global investment firm Temasek is set to strengthen its presence in Saudi Arabia by opening a new office in Riyadh during the first half of 2027, a move that reflects the kingdom’s growing importance as a regional hub for capital and long-term investment.

Reuters reported on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, that the Singaporean company plans to open two new offices in Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to deepen Temasek’s presence in the Middle East and connect opportunities in the region with its global investment network.

Riyadh Joins Temasek’s Global Network

Temasek currently has 13 offices in nine countries, according to its official data, and its net portfolio value stood at S$518 billion as of March 31, 2026. With the addition of Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, its international footprint will expand in a region the company sees as undergoing rapid economic and investment transformation.

Reuters said Chief Executive Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara pointed to the region’s strong economic transformation and investment potential, while the company aims to increase its engagement not only with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, but also with Qatar and other markets in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.

Why Riyadh?

Choosing Riyadh gives Temasek a direct presence in the largest Arab economy and brings its investment teams closer to local companies, opportunities and institutional partners. It also comes as investment activity expands in the kingdom’s technology, infrastructure, financial services and new energy sectors.

Temasek’s results for the financial year ended in March 2026 indicate that it invested S$51 billion during the year, compared with divestments worth S$31 billion, resulting in net investments of S$20 billion. The company says artificial intelligence, infrastructure and private credit represent attractive opportunities among its current investment priorities.

Portfolio Exceeds S$500 Billion

Temasek’s net portfolio value rose to S$518 billion at the end of March 2026, an increase of S$49 billion from the previous year, according to its official results. The company achieved a one-year total shareholder return of 10.5%, while continuing to diversify its portfolio across Singaporean and global investments.

Since April 2026, Temasek has also operated under an updated investment structure comprising specialized entities managing global and domestic investments, partnerships and funds. The reorganization is intended to increase specialization and improve the execution of strategies across regions and sectors.

What Does the Expansion Mean for the Saudi Economy?

The opening of the office does not in itself represent an announcement of specific new Saudi investments, but it raises the level of a major global investor’s direct presence in Riyadh. It could facilitate the evaluation of deals, the building of partnerships and the monitoring of opportunities from within the market. According to the report, the office opening will remain contingent on completing the regulatory approvals.

The news comes amid a broader movement by global financial and investment institutions to strengthen their presence in the Saudi capital. Developments in companies and investment can be followed in Break Media News’ Saudi Economy section.
