Pau Cubarsí, Barcelona’s young defender, continues to establish himself among European football’s leading talents after topping the list of nominees for the Golden Boy award for the best player under 21, following an impressive season with his club and the Spanish national team.

Defender leads the young talent race

Cubarsí said in an interview published by Reuters on October 1, 2026, that he wants defenders to receive their share of the major individual awards, as he leads the rankings for the Golden Boy award for Europe’s best young player.

Shines with Spain

The player’s rise came after his prominent performances with the Spanish national team, where he was named the best young player at the World Cup following his contribution to Spain’s title triumph, rapidly enhancing his standing on the international stage.

Ambition on and off the pitch

Despite his early success, Cubarsí is pursuing academic plans alongside football. He intends to study business administration and continues to improve his English, reflecting the new generation of players’ interest in building a path that extends beyond the pitch.
