Barq Raises SAR 1.24 Billion, Becoming Saudi Arabia’s Newest Billion-Dollar Fintech

Saudi Arabia’s fintech sector has recorded another notable funding deal after Barq announced the closing of a $329.5 million Series A round, equivalent to approximately SAR 1.24 billion, at a valuation of $1.85 billion. The deal makes the company one of the startups valued at more than $1 billion.
The announcement was made on September 15, 2026, while further details of the deal emerged more broadly on September 16, with Noon Investments, Sohar International Bank and M20 Fund participating in the round. The company said the new funding will be used to develop products and services, improve operational efficiency, invest in new financial and technology solutions, and expand regionally and internationally.
15 Million Users in Two Years
The round’s significance stems from Barq’s rapid growth since launching its services. According to figures released by the company, its platform has surpassed 15 million users from more than 210 nationalities within two years, while the value of funds processed through the platform has exceeded SAR 440 billion.
These figures do not mean that SAR 440 billion represents the company’s revenue; rather, it is the total value of funds that passed through its services. This is an important distinction when assessing the performance indicators of digital payments companies. Barq operates from Riyadh as a fintech company licensed by the Saudi Central Bank and provides payment and digital financial services through its app.
Why Is the Round Important for the Saudi Market?
Barq’s valuation reaching $1.85 billion adds another Saudi name to the list of billion-dollar fintech companies and reflects the local market’s ability to attract large funding rounds as the payments and digital banking sectors expand.
This comes as Saudi Arabia’s fintech ecosystem undergoes rapid growth in the number of companies, digital services and rates of electronic payments usage. The size of the round also intensifies competition among companies seeking to build integrated financial platforms that go beyond traditional transfers and payments to offer broader services to individuals and businesses.
Funding Opens the Door to Expansion Beyond Saudi Arabia
According to the company’s announcement, the proceeds from the round will be directed toward the next stage of growth, including accelerating product development, investing in new financial and technology solutions, and expanding into regional and international markets. Barq had already expanded its network of partnerships in payments and cross-border transfers in recent months.
The most important test following the round will be the company’s ability to convert its rapid growth in user numbers and transaction volumes into sustainable expansion, while maintaining service reliability and regulatory compliance in every new market it enters.
Saudi Fintech Sector Attracts Larger Investments
The deal comes as part of a broader wave of investment in Saudi fintech, with digital payments and new banking services emerging as some of the technology sector’s most active areas in the Kingdom. A round of this size is likely to increase investor interest in local companies capable of reaching a broad user base in a short period of time.
For Barq, surpassing the $1 billion valuation threshold roughly two years after launching its services represents an important milestone. At the same time, however, it raises expectations for growth, expansion and product quality in the next phase.
