Mohammed bin Salman in Cairo: Saudi-Egyptian Talks Focus on Bilateral Relations and Maritime Security
Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman visited Cairo on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, where he was received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The two leaders held a bilateral meeting followed by expanded talks attended by delegations from both countries.
According to official Saudi and Egyptian statements, the talks addressed ways to develop bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Egypt in several areas, in addition to discussing regional and international issues of shared interest.
Meeting at the Al-Ittihadiya Palace
Official sources said the meeting was held at the Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo following an official welcoming ceremony. The Egyptian presidency said the visit was a working visit and that its program included a closed-door bilateral meeting, expanded talks and a luncheon hosted by the Egyptian president in honor of the crown prince and his accompanying delegation.
The Saudi Umm Al-Qura Gazette also reported that the talks reviewed the strategic relations between the two countries and ways to develop them, as well as a number of Arab and Islamic issues and developments in the Middle East.
Maritime security among the issues discussed
The security and freedom of maritime navigation were among the key issues cited in official and news coverage of the meeting. Reuters reported that the two sides stressed the importance of navigation security in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, amid regional developments affecting trade and energy flows.
The talks also addressed the regional situation and ways to support stability and reduce tensions, with coordination continuing between Riyadh and Cairo on issues of shared interest.
Conclusion of the visit
The crown prince left Cairo the same day. Saudi media reported that he sent a cable of thanks to the Egyptian president after his departure, in which he referred to the two countries’ desire to continue cooperation, coordination and consultation.
The visit followed contacts and consultations between the two leaderships earlier in the same month, as part of an ongoing process of coordination between Saudi Arabia and Egypt on bilateral relations and regional developments.
